If you are interested in learning the finer points of Landscape Photography, whether a beginner or seasoned professional, or with just an interest, we have the day course for you.
Our courses are a practical one day course with support and a critique of your images produced on the day. We cover some of the most remarkable features of the South Downs in Sussex for part of the day, stopping for a pub lunch, before going into Brighton and producing images of the remarkable architecture, seafront, Piers and features. The day ends at 5pm but participants are encouraged to make use of the sunsets over the Channel, depending on the season, particularly the unique gathering of starlings above the piers at around sunset (known as a murmuring). This natural feature is one of natures most stunning displays, and is awe inspiring as well as presenting photographic challenges of low light and sweeping, rapid movement.
The emphasis of our courses is to enjoy the day and have fun whilst gaining practical experience and advice in the art. Itineries can be tailored to specific areas of interest within the County. A typical training day's itinery is set out below:
9.30am-9.45am Meet at Brighton Station. After introductions your guide and tutor will drive you and the other participants from Brighton to a number of breathtaking areas of the south downs including Beacons, Dykes and poppy laden fields. During the morning we will visit at least two different sites of specific interest, with an overview of the
area, advice on techniques and what to consider for your compositions, how to achieve your desired outcomes and a critique of images produced that morning. A walk along the South Downs Way will most certainly blow away the cobwebs!
1pm Stopping for a well earned lunch in a Sussex pub, there will be the opportunity to discuss issues of Landscape photography with your tutor and guide in a relaxed and informal setting, as well as considering the images produced that morning.
2pm Returning to Brighton and starting the afternoon in the grounds of the Pavillion, we will consider the merits of this unique building and what it can bring to your image collection.
Moving on to the seafront itself, you will be, undoubtedly, overwhelmed and spoiled for choice on potential image selection, from the glisterning Channel, to the piers, the architectural features, artists workshops, rows of beach huts, and the splendid and fine Victorian architecture of this unique English City by the sea.
Throughout the day your tutor and guide will be on hand to advise and support, consider and appraise your images with subtle advice on how they may be improved.
4.30pm Re-group on the seafront for image appraisal and Workshop feedback. Handouts for you to take away are provided on disk as our aim is to so inspire you that your head will be too full and brimming over with ideas and information on techniques, to retain it all, thus the disc for your future reference.
5pm END.
We actively encourage participants to remain and enjoy the sunset, making the most of the day. The City has a wealth of fine eateries, excellent restaurants, cafés and seafront bars. Groups and individuals are encouraged to make use of these facilities before returning to the station for your onward or homeward journeys. If you intend to stay overnight there is
no shortage of choices. We can help you make your plans if you wish.
Finally, to say, a level of fitness is required for this course as some walking is involved. Although distances may be short, some will be sharp declines and inclines, so it is strongly advised suitable clothing is worn including some
sturdy boots. If you have any health concerns always consult your GP first. We estimate walking may be 2 to 3 miles over sometimes rough and hilly terrain.
The day course cost is a very reasonable £105 per person, group bookings are a minimum of 3 people and maximum of 4. Individuals welcomed. Please call us to check availability. Tours take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays currently throughout the year, dependent on the weather. Unless rain is torrential we brave the elements.
Vouchers available all year round. To join us, call 01273 542970 and speak to Jim for further detials.
We look forward to sharing all that beautiful Sussex has to offer with you! BE INSPIRED!
